We have managed to survive 1st January 2021 – and 1st July 2021 (the end of VAT exemptions) — and businesses on both sides of the Channel are mostly coping.
I have to say, companies I work with are not enthused about the additional paperwork and costs regarding shipments between the EU and the UK, but they are dealing with it and getting on with their business.
Personally, for the small amount of shipments I do, I find DHL’s MyDHLExpress to work remarkably well for us. I am sure other logistics providers do the same for their small customers. But it has introduced definite hassles into daily business life.
I am sure if we were farther on past our 2020/2021 pandemic of COVID19 (first mention in my blogs) – there would have been a bigger impact, but having been at home in the Netherlands for the last 18 months, it means that I haven’t had to deal with whatever travel hassles Brexit is going to have caused. Most businesses have had more issues with the pandemic than with Brexit, all the way around. COVID19 recovery is a completely different but relevant topic.
In any case, we are in a new era – one currently more pre-occupied with COVID19 than Brexit. Who would have thought it???? From my last post in 2019 – not me! The past 18 months have brought me steady contract work from home, thankfully, but I look forward to roaming freely in the EU soon.
